Disassembly - Page 2

Completing the stripping of the front end was pretty simple - not much there.  I will probably replace all the grill teeth (they're pot metal and they loose their definition when they are rechromed).

The grill oval has a small crack in it but it will braze close easily and new chrome will make like new.

The bumperetts and bullets are in very good condition.  Mounting studs are about all that need attention before placing them back on the finished car.

The radiator support must remain in place until I am ready to separate the body and frame.  The support is all that connects the body front end to the frame.  When removed the front end floats and can be damaged by leaning on the unsupported body.  This is true of all early Vets.

The support is rusty - as is usual with radiator supports.  Sandblasted and repainted - it should be fine for reuse on the final car.

   Reduced to the basic shell

The stripping of the body is now complete.  All interior components and gauges have been removed.  All wiring, external and internal trim, doors, hinges, strikers, trunk and deck lids have been removed.   All that's left is the paint.  This will allow us to repaint the 54 with ease.  No masking lines on or under the trim.  This may seem like the most difficult way - but in reality - it's the simplest - it just takes time and  patience.

The reassembly of the 54 won't take place until the body is painted and polished and all it's parts are refinished and ready for reassembly.
